The BBSEA Eco-Innovation Challenge reached a major milestone on 10 June with the conclusion of its Shark Tank Event in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova, bringing together 27 finalists from across the world to pitch innovative solutions for a cleaner and more resilient Black Sea.

Following a highly competitive day of presentations and evaluation, 15 winning solutions were selected. Nine winners were chosen under the Focus Country Window, supporting solutions proposed for implementation in Moldova, Türkiye, and Georgia, while six winners were selected under the Greater Black Sea Window, where they will receive mentorship and technical support to further develop and scale their innovations.

The winning solutions address a wide range of environmental challenges, including marine litter, wastewater management, nutrient pollution, pollution monitoring, circular economy approaches, artificial intelligence applications, and nature-based solutions.

The Shark Tank Event marked the culmination of a process that attracted 186 applications from 40 countries, demonstrating strong interest from innovators around the world in developing practical solutions for the Black Sea region.

As the selected projects move into their next phase, implementation planning, technical refinement, mentorship, and partnership development will help transform promising ideas into tangible environmental impact.
