Türkiye

From policy assessment to local action

Türkiye has now completed the legal and policy assessment phase of the project and has moved into direct engagement with local stakeholders. Following detailed legislative mapping and the preparation of a national reform roadmap, project experts carried out consultations and field visits in Sakarya and Trabzon, meeting with municipalities and technical authorities to better understand local pollution challenges and identify priority infrastructure investments.

National Consultations

Sakarya Field Visit

Local authorities and technical experts reviewed wastewater infrastructure, discussed pollution hotspots and identified investment opportunities.

Trabzon Field Visit

Stakeholders examined regional challenges affecting the Black Sea coastline and contributed practical recommendations that will feed into Türkiye's national policy and investment package.

National Workshop

Coming soon

The national workshop will mark the next major milestone of the Türkiye component, bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, local authorities, wastewater utilities, technical experts, academia and other key stakeholders. Building on the findings from the legislative assessment and the consultations carried out in Sakarya and Trabzon, the workshop will provide an opportunity to review the draft policy and investment recommendations, validate priority actions and strengthen consensus on the way forward for reducing pollution entering the Black Sea.
